Private Care Association of Florida’s Elects Jim Mark as Vice President

Washington, DC – September 30, 2009 – The Private Care Association of Florida has elected Jim Mark of American Home Companions as Vice President of the association. Mr. Mark is attending the national Private Care Association Conference in Washington D.C. this week in an effort to bring attention to the critical issues facing private care options.

Mr. Mark is the President of American Home Companions. Based in Orlando, American Home Companions has grown to become the largest Live-in Companion Agency in Florida serving 21 counties. As an active member of the Private Care Association of Florida, Mr. Mark has promoted affordable, non-medical, in-home care options for Florida’s seniors by working to protect the registry model and consumer choice.

“With all of the issues facing the registry model and independent contractors in Washington today, it is imperative that as the most pro-registry state in the nation that Florida be well represented at the Private Care Association Annual Conference to ensure that our congressional delegation supports our industry,” states the Private Care Association of Florida’s Executive Director Corey Mathews, CAE. “We are very fortunate to have an outstanding industry leader like Jim Mark taking the time from his busy schedule to ensure that our message is delivered and successful,” Mr. Mathews continues.

The Private Care Association’s 2009 Annual conference is being held in Washington, D.C. September 29 through October 1 and will be discussing current issues affecting private care registries. Since 1977, the Private Care Association has been committed to protecting for-profit caregiver registries through its active government relations program. As the only national voice for caregiver registries, the Private Care Association promotes the consumer-directed model of care. The principal advantages of consumer-directed care are that it costs less, provides consumers greater participation in decisions concerning their care, allows consumers to individually select caregivers, provides greater continuity in caregiver relationships and more generously compensates the caregiver and supports caregiver entrepreneurship.

Since 1992, American Home Companions has offered the services of in-home eldercare companions allowing Florida seniors to live in the familiar and secure setting of their own home. American Home Companions works with hospitals, physicians, social workers, rehabilitation centers, nurse registries, and home health agencies in a combined effort to allow older adults to live their golden years in the comfort of their own homes.
