2009 Hurrican Preparations:

June 1st has come and gone and now is the time to have the home in order before a storm hits. Here are a few tips, items and ideas to make sure that you are prepared and don’t get caught in the last-minute scramble.

1. Purchase plenty of new batteries for flashlights, radios and any other essential electronics.
2. Contact your power company, if you are on oxygen, for priority listing for the power to
return during an outage.
3. Have emergency phone numbers by every phone.
4. Stock the house with plenty of ready-to-eat canned meats, vegetables and fruits.Canned or boxed juices and/or milk with plenty of bottled water to drink (one gallon
per person per day).
5. Know your evacuation shelters and have reliable transportation to these centers.
6. If forced to evacuate, take a list of medications and doses with a two-week supply, a
change of clothes, insurance cards and any other important daily living items.
7. Keep important documents such as birth certificates, insurance policies, deeds, stocks,
bonds, bank and credit card info stored in water-proof plastic bags.

Hope for the best but always be prepared for the worst!
