WALKING TO END ALZHEIMER’S:
The Alzheimer’s Association Annual Memory Walk®

Orlando, FL – October 3, 2008 – The Alzheimer’s Association annual Memory Walk® will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Lake Eola Park in Downtown Orlando. Over 1500 people are expected to participate in this event in an effort to raise funds and bring awareness to combat this disease.

“With approximately 5.2 million Americans now living Alzheimer’s disease, it is vitally important that we increase Alzheimer’s research and funding for local support programs,” said Sharon Melton, Director of Programs & Services for the Central & North Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

American Home Companions, owned and operated by Jim Mark, has been a long time sponsor of the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk® in both Orlando and Jacksonville and wants to emphasize the importance of contributing to these events. “American Home Companions wants to do anything we can to support the Alzheimer’s Association efforts to extend their research,” declared Mr. Mark. “Many of our clients have Alzheimer’s or some stage of memory loss, so we see first-hand the devastation of this disease every day.” Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States today.

“With Alzheimer’s disease poised to strike 10 million baby boomers, this escalating epidemic must be addressed now,” said Tish Sheesley, CEO of the local chapter. “Participating in the Central Florida Memory Walk® will help us by raising awareness and funds in our local community.” Memory Walk® registration will be held at 8 a.m. the morning of and the walk will take place at 9 a.m. To start a team or to make a donation, contact The Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/memorywalk or call (407) 228-4299.
